My Personal Story
I always knew what urinary incontinence was. I just never connected myself with that problem. What I did know, was that when I took a long trip, I had to stop every two hours for the bathroom. I knew I needed to cross my legs every time I sneezed, to avoid an accident. Even laughing or coughing was a problem.
And when we first got our son a trampoline, I had an accident the first time I tried it, so sharing in this fun activity with him was out of the question. I was getting up several times a night, and if I didn’t get to the bathroom in a hurry, it was too late. This, I was told, was normal because I’ve got three kids.
Women, as they age, will likely experience some type of issue associated with sexual wellness as their bodies change. These conditions can have a profound impact on quality of life. Women who are approaching menopause, dealing directly with menopause or are beyond menopause, will experience some form of female sexual dysfunction.
As mothers, we hear that frequent trips to the bathroom are a normal part of life and this is something we just have to accept. And vigorous exercise, forget about it! Many of us even have to wear those pee pads, which I affectionately call “lady diapers.” But I still didn’t associate “urinary incontinence” with my life. After all, nobody listens to those drug commercials, right?
Speaking of commercials, have you noticed that there are now more ads for “lady diapers” than baby diapers? You see them in magazines all the time. Now I understand.
Well as luck would have it, through my husband’s practice, I learned about a solution.
This treatment has been marketed mainly as a solution for sexual dysfunction, dryness and inability to climax during sex.
But, this process has another, very important benefit! Using the magic of “PRP”, which is not really magic at all, it can nudge the body to repair the tissues responsible for controlling your urine. As a result, incontinence (or “lady diapers”) can become a thing of the past!
So, let’s get down to the science. How does it work? At our clinic, we use PRP (platelet-rich plasma) which is extracted out of your own blood. Nothing strange there! PRP is full of growth factors. These growth factors, when injected into a specific area of the body, signal that area to start healing and regenerating.
When you receive this treatment, you are in and out within less than half an hour. First, our OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner will numb the area. She will then draw your blood to extract and prepare the PRP that will be used for the procedure. The PRP is then injected into the vaginal wall and the clitoris. Ladies, when I heard about this, my first words were, “She’s going to inject WHERE?? Holy Mackrell!” But don’t worry, the way our clinic performs this procedure, it is absolutely painless!
Just as a note, I feel so blessed that I found Tracy Ann, our Nurse Practitioner. I interviewed over 40 candidates, and when I met her, I knew she was the one. As an OBGYN she is used to working with women. She is so smart, sweet and caring, and she doesn’t like needles herself so she is extremely gentle!
After my treatment, I slept through the night without having to get up for the bathroom for the first time in YEARS! I couldn’t believe it. That’s just me, but what a difference!
Of course, not all women will have this immediate result. Some may require a second treatment. But, it’s a lot better than having to deal with the discomfort and embarrassment of “lady diapers” for the rest of your life! And think of the sleep you’ll enjoy!
If you are suffering with this issue, it’s time to talk about it. It’s often not talked about and women just put up with it. You never know which of your friends or relatives may also be dealing with this, so it’s time to speak up.
Call me, let’s talk about this. Your trampoline is waiting for you!
Urinary Incontinence
No one wants to worry about stress incontinence. Knowing that a sneeze or cough could trigger your bladder puts you constantly on guard. There are ways to fix the problem, but they mostly involve surgery and consultations with a urologist. Luckily, there is another option to get your freedom of mind and body back and escape the worry that stress incontinence brings.
Because it is a PRP injection, one added benefit when it regenerates vaginal tissue is a strengthening of the pelvic floor and the connective tissue. The same platelet rich plasma that can allow you to have pleasure again during sex can contribute to your urinary health as well. Being able to lift your child into your arms or the barbells at the gym without an embarrassing urinary leak is life-changing, and this injection can help make it possible.
