Regenerative Cellular Tissue aka Stem Cell
We concentrate on regenerative medicine, including the latest innovations in cellular science. If you live in the greater Atlanta area and have questions or want more clarification about the differences in regenerative medicine, Wharton's Jelly stem cell therapy, or conventional stem cell therapy, please get in touch with us. We would love the opportunity to give you more details and help you make an informed decision.
The human body has trillions of cells. Cells draw nutrients from the foods we eat and convert them into energy. Cells contain an organism’s hereditary code, and they can divide into copies of themselves to support growth and healing.
Different cells have different functions. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells meaning that they not designated as a specific type of cell but are capable of becoming whatever type of cell your body needs to heal and injury or fight disease.
Types of Stem Cells
Different types of stem cells are used in regenerative medicine treatments.
Mesenchymal Stem Cells or Wharton's Jelly Stem Cell Therapy
Our regenerative cell treatments contain mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton’s jelly. People often refer to this procedure as Wharton's Jelly stem cell therapy. We source these cells from reliable tissue banks. The umbilical allograft method of cell collection is completely safe and does not cause any discomfort to the baby or the mother. The collection procedure is conducted in strict compliance with FDA and the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) principles. These cells are highly effective because they are young and strong. They have not yet aged in the way your own stem cells have. The best way to think about the value of young stem cells is to to consider how fast a young person heals from an injury as opposed to an older person. This is because of their young, healthy stem cells.
Bone Marrow Stem Cells
Some other Atlanta area clinics choose to harvest these cells, however we do not. The process of extracting bone marrow cells is quite painful. A hole is drilled into the hip or femur, which is a highly invasive procedure. The cells obtained from bone marrow are not as effective since they are as old as the patient, and thus not nearly as efficient as younger stem cells.
Adipose Tissue Stem Cells
We also choose not to use adipose tissue cells. They are extracted from a patient’s fat cells while they are under local anesthetic, and this procedure is slightly invasive. We don't prefer to use these cells for several reasons. Your body stores toxins in fat cells and those toxins may have an adverse effect on the stem cells and may therefore lessen your results. These cells are also the age of the patient, making them less effective than younger, cleaner cells. After the age of 30 your stem cells begin to lose effectiveness.
Amniotic Fluid Stem Cells
Amniotic fluid is known more for the growth factors it contains than for the stem cells themselves. The growth factors include amino acids, cytokines, and a few other substances related to immune function. Treatment with amniotic cells and growth factors may be recommended as part of your care.
The cells used in the treatments offered at our clinic are exceptionally effective. When they are injected into the affected area of the body, they are readily accepted and put to work. The young cells immediately provide a boost to your body’s natural ability to regenerate tissue.
Patients benefit from regenerative cell therapy for a variety of conditions including:
- Knee pain
- Joint pain in the shoulder, elbow, or hip
- Sciatica and other forms of back pain
- Nerve damage
- Muscle, tendon, and ligament tears
- Cartilage and meniscus damage
- Rotator cuff injury
- Neck pain
- Pain caused by poor fitness and posture
- Migraines and other headaches
